UIC-A On occasion, award sponsors limit how many applications/nominations UCI may submit for an award. We call these "limiteds" or “limited submissions” and for these special award opportunities, the Office of Research establishes a pre-proposal screening process. The process may vary slightly depending on the sponsor or award, but in every case the Office of Research forwards a description of the award and the process for screening applicants to the Deans and other relevant unit heads. When the number of applications received by the Vice Chancellor for Research (VCR) exceeds the limit (often only one), a faculty ad hoc committee is convened to conduct the internal review. Once the review is complete and endorsed by the VCR, the selected candidate(s) are notified. Selected candidates are required to follow sponsor and University guidelines when submitting their formal proposal.
