OSP: Method of dividing a project into pieces with distinct periods of time, amounts of funding, and scopes of work; often a new segment is indicated by peer review submission.  For example, a NIH project often has a first Segment for years 1-5 and a second Segment for years 6-10. 

Every project has one or more segments and all segments within a project share the same sponsor, PI, and Tub/Org.  Each Segment has a unique Fund value.  The initial segment will be created via an initial request and subsequent segments will be created via competing renewal requests.
