PVAMU: In the context of the life cycle of a contract or grant, the pre-award period begins with project development and concludes after the award negotiation and acceptance. (Compare: Post-Award)

BSU: Pre-Award is considered to be activity prior to official funding of a sponsored agreement. These activities are performed by the Sponsored Projects Administration and include the following pre-award functions:

  • Identify funding sources
  • Proposal development, coordination, and submission to funding agency
  • Clearance process to obtain all internal approvals before a contract or grant agreement can be executed

SMU: That period of time preceding approval of grant funding by Grants & Contracts Accounting (GCA) and assigned a project number.

Taimu: The unit of ORA that processes, reviews, and submits applications and negotiates awards and contracts.
