NIH: The annual period established for Government accounting purposes. A Fiscal Year begins on October 1 and ends September 30 of the following year. Example: FY2011-Started October 1, 2010 and ends September 30, 2011.

NHLBI: for the federal government: October 1 to September 30.

NSF2: Fiscal year refers to the month-to-month financial year as used by each surveyed institution or system rather than the fiscal year followed by the Federal government. The month in which a fiscal year begins may vary from institution to institution.

NSF3: The fiscal year in the Federal Government accounting period begins October 1 of a given year and ends September 30 of the following year; thus, fiscal year 1994 began on October 1, 1993, and ended September 30, 1994.
