European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership

The European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) is aimed at accelerating the development and evaluation of new vaccines and drugs for the prevention and therapy of HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, and to do so in close partnership between European countries and sub-Saharan African countries. Another EDCTP emphasis is on building supply and research capacities for the execution of on-site studies (capacity building). The EU Commission is providing up to 200 million euros in financing for EDCTP. In a co-financing role, the Member States are to provide an additional 200 million euros. European
